As the sole design firm of this head-to-toe remodel, Matter oversaw this project from initial vision to final execution. We directed every step of the process—from architectural space planning and design development to construction oversight and project management.

Insight

The original office interiors were outdated and dysfunctional, but the second-floor corner-lot placement provided potential for incredible views of Aspen Mountain. Our design concept was to maximize and frame these views, making them visible in every far-reaching corner of the office.

We incorporated expansive exterior windows as well as floor-to-ceiling glass walls between individual offices to allow natural light to flow from space to space. Partial solid partitions were added for privacy, and a wireless white-noise system was implemented to buffer the acoustics of the open floor-plan. A soothing palette of warm gray paint, charcoal metal ceiling tiles and wire-brushed oak floors were hand-picked to deflect the abundance of natural light and promote focus. Luxury furnishings in organic materials and modern forms—including adjustable desks in each private office—paired with black-and-white landscape photographs connects the interiors to its rustic surroundings.

Impact

By providing inspiration through panoramic views and a mix of collaborative and private spaces for an adaptive workspace, we achieved our client’s request for “the coolest office in Aspen.”
